One of our friends works at Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville. She told us a story last night about a little boy who we’ll call “Johnny.” Johnny was in for an appendectomy(had to ask what that was; it’s a surgical procedure to have your appendix removed….duh).
Our friend says it’s pretty common for kids to ask for ice cream or a popsicle after their surgery is over. Normally a parent will run down to the cafeteria or grab something from a vending machine. Not Johnny’s mom. She went to Ben and Jerry’s and purchased a “smoothie” for her son. Seems thoughtful, right? Well, as the story goes, Johnny refused to drink the beverage from Ben and Jerry’s. Instead the young boy, appendix newly removed, told his mother, “Mommy I want a 9 Fruits smoothie!” Apparently Johnny was, as they say here in the south, having a hankerin’ for a Choc Full of Peanut Butter from 9 Fruits.
Unfortunately, we don’t yet have a location anywhere near Downtown Nashville, so Johnny was eventually coerced into drinking the other smoothie. Our friend said that if there had been a 9 Fruits even remotely close, Johnny’s mom would have obliged.
That’s a little bit of a sad story. But we’re glad to hear we have at least one devoted young customer!
